Aberdeen Looking For More Low-Income Housing

The Aberdeen housing authority is asking the city to help meet the need for more low-income housing.

The group wants to build more town homes, like these, to rent out at a reduced rate for people who qualify.

There've been some roadblocks with the project, so the Housing Authority is asking the city to wave some fees and taxes if the project breaks ground. For one, it's asking to pay taxes on rent that comes in rather than the actual value of the property.

“With those low rents we really have to keep our expenses down and the lower property taxes is one way to do that,” Aberdeen Housing Authority Jodi Zueger said.

The housing authority had this chunk of land picked out to build the town homes but the zoning board didn't approve the project after neighbors said they didn't approve. But it could still build one big apartment complex on the site or go before the zoning board with a different idea.
