$10,000 Grant For Blood Run

Sioux Falls, SD

The South Dakota Community Foundation is providing a $10,000 grant to help develop a new state park at the Blood Run National Historic Landmark near Sioux Falls.

The grant goes to the South Dakota Parks and Wildlife Foundation, which is working with the state Game, Fish and Parks Department to purchase land and finance development of the park.

Blood Run, located on the Big Sioux River, was named a National Historic Landmark in 1970 because it is one of the oldest places of long-term human habitation in America.

The site was used by thousands of Oneota Indians into the early 1700s. It includes a large oak forest, rolling hills, flood plains and riverside bluffs.

The South Dakota Community Foundation makes grants for non-profit, charitable and scholarship purposes.
