Vision In Place For Sioux Falls Tomorrow

Sioux Falls, SD

What Sioux Falls could look like over the next ten years is being determined right now. For the third time, a vision is in place for the city to continue to expand and flourish.

"Our goal was to bring together members from the community to have them talk about what they want to see their community remain and become as they look into the future," project director Andy Patterson said.

An online survey and community meetings earlier this year started that process. Now, a group of city leaders called "Sioux Falls Tomorrow" has given a recommendation on how the city should progress. Areas such as education and economic vitality are being looked at closely.

"A lot of the goals focus on managing the growth that the community has had. Whether it's just in the infrastructure or it's some of the changing demographics that have come through that growth," Patterson said.

The changing demographics of the city represent the biggest difference between this report and the one made 10 years ago. Patterson says that the City is ready to accept this new challenge.

"It encompasses a lot of things. One of them in economic vitality is how do we tap into some of the great professional abilities from people that are new to the community and new to the United States that maybe we're not taking advantage of or properly engaging people from different backgrounds," Patterson said.

Improvements in accessing social services will also be a priority.

Sioux Falls' future will rely heavily on how members of the community apply the group's recommendations

Improvements to the city's park system and downtown renovations were part of the 2004 report and results can be seen right now. If you'd like to view the 2014 report, visit the Sioux Falls Tomorrow website.
