Vikings Fan From SF Gets Stadium Preview

Minneapolis, MN

The Minnesota Vikings are counting on fans to pay up when it comes to the franchise's new stadium. Seat licenses will cost season ticket holders anywhere from $500 to $9,500.

It takes a lot of "Purple Pride" to want to give away so much green but if you want to be a part of the Vikings' future as a season ticket holder, it will cost you.

Tom Stritecky of Sioux Falls is a longtime season ticket holder. He's in Minneapolis getting one of the first looks at a new Stadium Preview Center.

"That's pretty awesome to walk through. This is going to be a facility that is going to be like no other in the world, the way it's being set up. This is even going to beat out the 'JerryDome,'" Stritecky said.

Stritecky has already renewed his ten season tickets for the next two years at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota. He hasn't quite made up his mind on what to do after that.

"The seats we are in are lower level seats and they're mid-tier lower level, like row 18 and 19. The proposed seat tax for them is $2,500 per seat," Stritecky said.

If he decides to pay the one-time fee that will cost him $25,000, he will own the seats and can trade or sell them as he sees fit. The Vikings are hoping to take in $100 million from the sales of seat licenses. The team has a lot of work to do. There are just over 65,000 seats in the new stadium and 75 percent will require fans to purchase seat licenses before they buy tickets.

"Obviously I'd just assume not pay it if I was a season ticket holder but I don't know what choice you have if you want to be part of it," Stritecky said.

The Vikings offer payment plans with the seat licenses. 80 percent of the licenses sell for $3,000 or less.
