Upcoming Event Promotes Leadership, Networking

Are you looking for an opportunity to enhance your leadership skills and network with other community members?

A new event that could help you do that is making its debut in the Sioux Falls area.

Melanie Keegan is getting ready for a new opportunity.

"I am so excited to just be inspired by some of the leaders that are going to be there. It's always great to network with people in our community and just find ways to work together," Melanie Keegan said.

She's the Community Engagement Leader at Thrivent Financial. On Monday she'll attend the Connect! Leadership Symposium.

Kerri Tietgen is the woman behind the event. She says the idea has been brewing for about five or six years now.

"Leaders are really busy being busy and as you get higher in the organization there are less opportunities in this community for executives and directors, and really strong leaders," Kerri Tietgen said.

People who attend this event will get a chance to hear from three different speakers, but after each speech audience members will break up into groups called "Genius Labs" where they'll get a change to digest the information.

"What does that mean for us? What do we do with that information? How is that challenging? How is that great in theory, but maybe challenging when we get back to our offices," Tietgen said.

Tietgen hopes the progress made will continue beyond the one-day event.

"My goal is that others will continue to talk as a community and it will just be a stepping stone for a different direction in communication," Tietgen said.

"I think this is going to be something we really haven't see anything like around here," Keegan said.

There's still time to register for the event which will begin Monday morning at 8:00 at the Meadow Barn at Country Orchards near Sioux Falls.
