Trooper Injured In Sioux Falls Chase, Shooting

Sioux Falls, SD

A South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper is hospitalized in critical but stable condition after being run over by the suspect of a pursuit in southern Sioux Falls.

Details are still coming together but KELOAND News has learned it all began around 2:30 Wednesday morning.  A pursuit that involved the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department traveled to 57th Street and Western Avenue at the strip mall behind Bracco's Restaurant. That's where witnesses say they saw a shooting involving the female suspect and law enforcement.  Officials say the suspect then left the scene, heading north on Western Avenue and stopped between 46th and 49th Streets.

Attorney General Marty Jackley says the 25-year-old female suspect was shot, arrested and is in the hospital.  Her condition has not been released.

Drivers are asked to avoid both areas during their morning commute. The businesses surrounding the crime scenes will be closed until investigators are finished gathering evidence.
