Sioux Falls, SD
It looks a lot like a toy store at the Toys For Tots building in Sioux Falls, with gifts piled up all along the walls, ready for needy families to pick them up and put them under their tree.
"Anyone can signup for services and as long as they feel they need some assistance we don't judge, we don't have any income criteria, it's not our place to decide who does or doesn't," Toys For Tots Coordinator Melissa Jungemann said.
Families could sign up earlier this fall so that each child in their family could get at least one present this year. Toys For Tots takes care of all the worries for parents, including wrapping the gifts.
"Cause sometimes you know if you're struggling to make ends meet, sometimes even that wrapping paper is a little hard," Jungemann said.
So far about 1500 toys have been donated to Toys For Tots, but within the next week the organization could use another 600.
"We could use some more, certain age groups are more, or you know we have more toys than the other ones, like today we went and bought some baby toys so we're really short on babies," Jungemann said.
Another age group that has a smaller pile than others is for kids between ages 8 and 11.
"We just went out and bought some more toys so we can start processing those orders, cause that's what we started yesterday so if we don't have the toys it's hard to you know fill them for the parents," Jungemann said.
So with the help from the community, Toys For Tots is hoping every child will have a present of their own to open in just two weeks.
If you'd like to donate, there are still donation boxes setup at Lewis Drug stores, Ace Hardware and Menards in Sioux Falls. For more information about Toys For Tots, visit the Sioux Falls Jaycees website.
