Sioux Falls, SD
Today many families across the country are celebrating Father's Day.
U.S. Senator John Thune says the holiday should be about thanking Dads for all the time and effort they put in to help raise kids. Thune thanks his 94-year-old dad Harold for raising him the right way while he was growing up in Murdo, South Dakota. The senator points to how his dad, who was a teacher, treated him and his siblings while they attended school.
"The thing I always appreciated about dad was I know he was busy, worked hard during the school year and then he always had summer jobs to try and make ends meet, but he always had time to throw the baseball around or to get us out to the nearest stock dam to take us fishing,” Senator Thune said.
“We've always been very close as a family and mutual admiration and respect and it's just been wonderful,” Harold said.
The Thune family was celebrating Father's Day with a pheasant feed with the family.
