Sioux Falls, SD
Members of "Those Guys ABATE" want you to join them this Sunday. They'll be hosting a run to benefit the Children's Home Society.
For six years now, "Those Guys ABATE" have been raising money for Children's Home Society through their run. Group president Dave Brende, says this year's goal is $8,000.
"This has turned into the biggest poker run in Sioux Falls. Riders love giving back to the community and especially if it's for kids," Brende said.
Last year's event featured 415 riders and donations of more than $7,000. 100-percent of the proceeds go to support Children's Home Society.
"They just love it. They treat us like we gave them a million dollars. They love anything they can get," Brende said.
The run has more than 30 sponsors and signup is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cheap Shots at the I-29 Tea Exit. Marlin's Family Restaurant will provide a free lunch for participants and anything with wheels is allowed to join the ride. You don't have to be a motorcyclist.
Brende says he didn't know how big the fundraiser would grow when he started it, but he's happy to be helping kids in need.
"Oh I love it. I love it. It takes about seven months to get to this point. Sunday it will be all worth it," Brende said.
Brende says there will be a big tent for shade set up at the sign up location for anyone looking to come out and stay out of the sun this Sunday. The cost is $10 per rider. Prizes included more than $3,600 in gift cards.
