Crews Work To Contain Fire In Custer State Park

Custer State Park

Crews say they are making good progress in containing a fire in Custer State Park.

According to Great Plains Fire Information, the Playhouse Fire was reported at around midnight Friday morning. It was previously estimated to be about 30 acres in size and was spotted about a half mile north of Center Lake. But through more accurate mapping, the area of the fire slightly downgraded to about 24 acres.

Local and state resources have brought in a privately owned bulldozer to help put out the fire. The United States Forest Service, along with handcrews from Black Hat, Bear Mountain, and the Department of Corrections will help with fire suppression.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
