Suspect Arrested After Yankton Robbery

Yankton, SD

A Freedom gas station in Yankton was robbed last night at approximately 10:15 p.m.

Yankton Police Department reports an undisclosed amount of cash was taken, the suspect fled the scene and was seen entering a vehicle. The suspect's desciption, along with a description of the vehicle, were given to authorities.

At approximately 10:43 p.m., South Dakota Highway Patrol initiated a pursuit with a vehicle with a matching description, east of Yankton on State Highway 50. The chase reached speeds over 100 miles per hour before the suspect lost control of the vehicle and rolled. The suspect attempted to flee the scene, but was apprehended by the pursuing trooper.

The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Baylon Nkeshimana of Omaha, NE. He was arrested for first-degree robbery, eluding, reckless driving, and improper left turn and land driving. An undisclosed amount of cash was recovered.

Agencies involved were Yankton Police Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol and Yankton County Sheriff's Office.
