Sunday Boredom Busters

Hear stories of hope and recovery during a Candlelight Vigil & Walk to kick-off Mental Illness Awareness Week.  The event begins at 6 pm with a prayer and scripture service at First Lutheran Church in downtown Sioux Falls.  The candlelight walk begins at 6:30 pm.  Mental Illness Awareness Week also includes a National Day of Prayer on Tuesday and National Depression Screening Day on Thursday.

Eight homes throughout Sioux Falls are featured in the in the Showcase of Remodeled Homes.  You can check them out from noon to 5 pm.  It costs $5 to see all of the homes.  Tickets can be purchased at any of the homes.  Kids 2 and under are free.

The pumpkins are ready for picking during Harvest Festival at Country Apple Orchard.  Today's hours are noon to 5 pm.  Country Apple Orchard is located 4 and a half miles south of Sioux Falls on Minnesota Avenue.

Bring Fido and your family to a free dog festival at the Spencer Dog Park.  Woofstock starts at 1 pm.  The park is located at Cliff Avenue and Interstate 229.

Cinema Falls presents a matinee showing of the science fiction drama Dust Of War.  The movie begins at 1:30 pm at the West Mall 7 Theatres at the Western Mall in Sioux Falls.

Films playing at the Wells Fargo CineDome in the Washington Pavilion include Titans of the Ice Age, Waking the T-Rex 3D: The Story of Sue, and Planes.

New Hollywood releases playing at a theater near you include Gravity, rated PG-13, Grace Unplugged, rated PG, Runner Runner, rated R and Instructions Not Included, rated PG-13.

St. Wenceslaus Church in Tabor, SD holds its annual bazaar from 2:30 to 7 pm.  In addition to servings of chicken, dressing and dumplings, there will also be games, concessions and prizes. 

St. Magdalen Catholic Church in Lennox, SD invites everyone to their annual Soup & Pie Sunday. They'll be serving from noon to 2:30 pm. Cost is $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for youth and free for ages 5 and under. 

The Worthing Community Fire Department is hosting a Benefit Pancake Feed for former firefighter Lorrie Stratmeyer to raise money for medical bills.  The pancake feed goes from 9 am to 1 pm at the Worthing Fire Hall and includes a silent auction and raffle.

Benson's Flea Market features more than 30-thousand square feet of antiques, collectibles jewelry and many other items for sale.  It goes from 11 am to 4 pm at the Expo Building at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds.  Admission is $2, free for kids 12 and under.

Learn how to swing dance for free at the Old Courthouse Museum in downtown Sioux Falls.  Beginning lessons start at 1 pm with open dancing to follow from 1:40 to 4 pm.  All ages are welcome, no partners needed.

Find your way through 11-acres of paths carved out at the Heartland Corn Maze.  Hours are noon to 5 pm.  Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for kids, free for ages 4 and under.  The corn maze is located on Highway 11, south of Harrisburg.  It's open weekends through October 20th.
