Students from the University of Arizona analyzed more than 3 million food-related Twitter posts to determine the most popular food word per state.
In the upper Midwest, South Dakota stands alone with Colorado with burgers as the most popular food. Nebraska and North Dakota had taco top the list, while pizza was the most popular food in Iowa and Minnesota.
The paper also identifies the most distinctive food word per state. Minnesota and Wisconsin fed into food-related stereotypes, with venison and sauerkraut respectively. Soybeans was distinctive to South Dakota, and peach was number one in Nebraska.
