State Foresters Wrap Up Annual Meeting In Cheyenne

CHEYENNE, Wy

State foresters from around the country are in Cheyenne discussing this year's fire season and sharing tips on managing forests.

Nearly 200 officials representing 44 states are attending the National Association of State Foresters at the Little America Hotel. The conference wraps up Thursday.

Beetle kill and other dangerous fire fuels have been a popular topic.

South Dakota state forester Ray Sowers said his department has been focused on beetle-killed forests this summer. Montana state forester Bob Harrington says intermountain West states will be dealing with beetle-killed trees for decades.

California forestry officials didn't attend the conference because of budget constraints.
