Box Elder, SD
State officials have corrected a speed-limit snafu in a hot spot for speeding tickets in southwest South Dakota.
Officials acknowledge that a short section of Interstate 90 near Box Elder is a 75-mph zone, not a 65-mph stretch as signs have indicated.
The newspaper reports officers make frequent stops in that stretch as they sit in the median of the highway where the speed limit goes from 75 to 65 mph. The area in question is a 1.3 mile stretch of the 65 mph zone that starts west of Rapid City and ends less than a half mile east of Exit 67.
Area attorneys say some who have been pulled over have ended up in prison because drugs have been found in their vehicles.
