South Dakota Men Accused Of Multiple Hunting Violations

Timber Lake, SD

Men from Dewey and Beadle counties face charges related to multiple hunting violations over a three-year time period.

According to court papers filed in Dewey County, 39-year-old Douglas Kraft of Timber Lake and 32-year-old John Tschetter of Yale organized, led and encouraged a group of hunters to break state laws.

Undercover wildlife officers say violations include chasing deer with a pickup and shooting them from a pickup, failing to tag deer, hunting big game animals without a license and violating conditions of a license.

Charges against Tschetter recorded in court papers share reports of him hiding killed deer rather than tagging them. Those papers also say Kraft helped people hunting with him who used deer tags from previous years.

Charges facing the men are misdemeanors. They are expected to appear in court next month.
