sioux falls, sd

Southwest Minnesota State University head men's basketball coach Brad Bigler is recovering well.  He was injured a two-car crash over the weekend that also killed his five-month-old son, Drake, and injured his wife and her grandmother.

Surgeons at Avera McKennan Hospital say Brad Bigler's recovery is moving in the right direction but that he needs to continue to rest.

His wife, Heather, had minor injuries.  Her grandmother, Sharon Schuler, is also making progress in her recovery.

The family has made funeral arrangements for Drake.  A visitation is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 5, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Marshall.  It's also where his funeral will be held Monday, August 6 at 1 p.m. with a viewing starting at 11 a.m.

The family has established a memorial fund in Drake's name through the SMSU Foundation.

The family was driving on Highway 29 near Starbuck, Minnesota, Saturday when officials say 38-year-old Dana Schoen crossed the center line and hit them head on.  Schoen had a blood alcohol content of .351 when officials arrived on scene.  He's charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of DWI.
