Small Business Saturday A Success In Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls, SD

First there was Black Friday... then there was Cyber Monday. And now it's Small Business Saturday. For the third year in a row, holiday shoppers set their sights away from the big box stores and spent their time and money in local shops.

Thousands of people descended on Downtown Sioux Falls Saturday where most businesses participated in the national event. Zambroz Variety on Phillips Avenue was packed with shoppers buying for friends, family, and even themselves. Alix Hentges, an employee there, spoke with KELOLAND News and says they've never seen it so busy.

“I mean, if you step into a business like this, all of us that work here, work as a unit and if the unit doesn't function or make the money we need them we really can't continue on so supporting families and small businesses is really important to keep downtown and the community thriving,” Hentges said.

Several shops were offering special discounts to people who shopped locally.
