Sioux Falls Police Searching For Assault Suspect

Authorities are looking for a 19-year-old man who assaulted and kidnapped his 17-year-old girlfriend.

An altercation occured outside the girlfriend's residence early Wednesday morning. Sioux Falls Police Information Officer Sam Clemens said the 19-year-old strangled his girlfriend and forced her towards Covell Lake. Once at the lake, he allegedly attempted to push her into the lake. Police are unsure if she was unconscious at any time during the altercation.

The 17-year-old girl escaped back to her home where her mother called the police. Clemens said the man is still on the run, but will likely face aggravated assault and kidnapping charges.

Authorities did not release the names of those involved. The 17-year-old girl did suffer scrapes and bruises, but refused medical treatment.
