A design committee has been created to help ensure that the public has a say in what Sioux Falls' new events center will look like.
City officials announced Thursday that a Design Elements Committee has been established to "promote community involvement" and "capture citizen input" in the design of the new center, which voters approved in November.
The 12,000-seat center is meant to draw concerts, rodeos and other events to South Dakota's largest city. After months of back-and-forth between proponents and critics, voters embraced the plan.
The 12-member committee includes area businesspeople, city representatives, art consultants, educators and donors. Their input is to be presented to the public during monthly presentations to the City Council and at open houses.
Construction on the center is expected to begin in the summer.
