Sioux Empire Fair Celebrates 75th Year

Sioux Falls, SD

The 75th annual Sioux Empire Fair kicked off this weekend in Sioux Falls at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. When it comes to the Sioux Empire Fair, there's a lot to see and do.

"We bring value," President and CEO Scott Wick said. "Whether you want to come out and see the free entertainment that's on the ground, or you want to come out and see the free entertainment in the grandstand, or go sit and watch a horse show, go to a cattle show, there's really something for everybody to do."

Even though the total attendance numbers won't be available until after the fair is complete, Wick said event is bringing in more money than previous years.

"Daily revenue is up for the opening on Friday, and revenue is up for yesterday as well," Wick said. "Whether that came from admission or food and beverage or carnival, that's yet to be decided. We'll compile all that data at the end of the fair, and then we'll be ready to tell everybody."

For now, guests are just enjoying the fair while it's here.

"Because usually in the summer is the only time they come," fair guest Meghan Hanson said.

Meghan Hanson enjoys rides like the tilt-o-whirl, and food, like mini donuts. Her brother, Jacob, enjoys the caterpillar ride.

The Sioux Empire Fair runs until August 10. For a full schedule of events, visit the event’s website.
