Sioux Falls, SD
During an afternoon off, Hallie Sims is spending time poolside at her south-east side apartment.
"I think the city is great here," Sims said.
The nursing intern moved to Sioux Falls from Brookings in May.
"I'm originally from Rapid City so I wanted a different scene and I love Sioux Falls. I enjoy it so much and I'm really glad I moved down," Sims said.
Sims is one of 10,000 new Sioux Falls residents who've moved to the city in the last four years. An average of 2,300 people are coming to the state's largest city annually.
"It's not a real huge spike, it's very manageable," Mike Cooper said.
Cooper is the Director of Planning and Building Services.
He says in just the first half of this year, building permits have been requested to build 1,100 housing units, almost two-thirds of them for multi-housing developments.
"We are still seeing more housing demand for apartments and town homes than single-family and I think that is part of the demographics," Cooper said.
An apartment is just what Sims and her roommate were looking for when moving to Sioux Falls. She says there were plenty of options.
"We took a few months and we looked around Sioux Falls every couple weeks. We liked this place the best but we had a ton of places to look at," Sims said.
