Sen. Tim Johnson says former Gov. Bill Janklow was one of the most colorful governors in South Dakota's history.
Janklow died Thursday at the age of 72.
Johnson, a Democrat, says he sometimes agreed with Janklow and sometimes disagreed but always respected him for his passionate sense of public service.
Johnson says he's known Janklow for more than 30 years, and the two met during Janklow's first term as governor and Johnson's first term in the South Dakota House.
He says Janklow was not afraid of controversy.
