SD Historical Society Gives $63,000 To 5 Projects

Pierre, SD

The South Dakota State Historical Society has awarded nearly $63,000 in grants for five historic preservation projects.

An additional $192,000 in matching funds from public and private entities will go to the projects.

The 1922 Roosefelt School in Aberdeen and the 1927 Spink County Courthouse will receive funds to repair joints.

The Fort Sisseton Doctor's Residence from 1881 will get new shingles on the roof.

Funds will also go toward the 1910 Odd Fellows Home in Dell Rapids and the 1909 Mead Building in Yankton.

This is the 17th year for the grants, which come from Deadwood gaming revenue set aside for historic preservation in the state.

The grants are awarded twice a year. The next deadline is Oct. 1.
