A Rapid City woman accused of trying to rob two casinos last summer wants out of jail to attend the funeral of a man she calls her fiancé, but the man's family says Julia Peters was nothing more than an acquaintance.
The funeral for 51-year-old Terry Brown has not yet been set, family members say.
The 26-year-old Peters is accused of using a knife and a machete to try to rob two casinos in a four-day span in early July. Authorities say she dyed her hair to try to elude capture but was arrested later that month.
Brown died Saturday after being struck by a vehicle. His family says Peters is looking for an excuse to get out of jail.
Judge Mary Thorstenson did not immediately issue a ruling.
