SD Attorney General's Office Investigating Complaints Against Huron Cemetery

Huron, SD

Families say an eastern South Dakota cemetery is making a difficult time even more painful.

They claim Restlawn Memory Gardens is taking their money and not following through with its services.

Restlawn Memory Gardens is located just south of Huron on State Highway 37.

The Beadle County State's Attorney has been taking calls from families who say they paid in full for a loved one's funeral and burial, but memorials haven't been put in place.  Complaints started coming in three or four months ago and they haven't stopped.

On Restlawn's Facebook page, one person claims they contacted the monument company and found out the grave marker had been ordered but Restlawn had not paid so it couldn't be completed.  Another says they've waited six months for a grave stone.  They say they've spoken with someone who has been waiting a year.

Beadle County State's Attorney Mike Moore tells us he's received more than 20 complaints and is now working with the Attorney General's Office to put together a list of potential victims.

A spokesperson confirms the AG's office has an active investigation.   They're asking anyone who may be a victim to call 605-353-8430, so they can make sure everyone is included.

We called Restlawn Memory Gardens and left a message, but at this point, no one has responded.   If we hear back, we will be sure to let you know.
