Saturday Boredom Busters, May 19th

By It's a full day of activities at the Tulip Festival in Orange City, IA.

It's a full day of activities at the Tulip Festival in Orange City, IA.    It gets going with a breakfast starting at 7 a.m.  A quilt show and antique tractor show starts at 9 a.m.  Wooden shoe carving demonstrations begin at 10 a.m.  Volksparades are at 1 & 6 p.m.  A puppet show is at 4:45 p.m.  A performance of Disney's Beauty and the Beast the musical is at 8 p.m.  

Walk MS is a one and three mile walk to raise money for services and research to move us closer to a world free of MS.  Registration goes from 8-10 a.m. at Cherry Rock Park in Sioux Falls.  Participants can begin walking once they check-in.

NAMIWalks South Dakota raises money and awareness about mental illness.  Registration for the 5K walk begins at 8 a.m. at Sertoma Park in Sioux Falls.  The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. 
 
The Spring Parade of Homes features more than 75 new homes on display in Sioux Falls, Brandon, Harrisburg, Tea and Crooks.  The hours are from 1-5 p.m. today and Sunday.  All homes are free to tour except the two Feature Homes are $5 each.  The proceeds will go to the Home Builders Care Foundation.

The Military and Veterans Affairs Committee of the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting an Armed Forces Day ceremony at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center.  The program begins at 10:30 a.m. and includes an oath of enlistment for men and women being inducted into the military.  In case of rain, the ceremony will be moved to the South Dakota Air National Guard.
  
The AMA Coin & Stamp Show features 50 dealers from eight states buying, selling and trading items at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Saturday's hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Sunday's hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Admission is free.
  
The Sioux Empire Film Festival features films and documentaries playing all day in the Belbas Theater in the Washington Pavilion.  Awards will be given to filmmakers in several categories.   The morning session goes from 9:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.   The afternoon session is from 1:30 to 5 p.m.  The evening session runs from 6:30 to 10 p.m.  

All riders are welcome to take part in the New Life Treatment Center Horse Ride-a-Thon.  The riders will trek from the Pipestone County Fairgrounds to Woodstock, MN starting at 10 a.m.  There is no entry fee to take part.   Proceeds will go toward new furnishings the treatment center's men's and women's units.
  
It's Open House and Free Fishing Weekend at all South Dakota state parks and recreation areas.  To celebrate, Good Earth State Park at Blood Run, southeast of Sioux Falls, is hosting a Spring Photo Scavenger Hunt.  Stop by the visitor center and pick up your scavenger hunt sheet then head into the park to take pictures.  All participants will receive prizes.  

Stock up on your summer reading at a Used Book Sale in Mitchell.  The sale goes from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church.  Proceeds will benefit the Mitchell-Area Historical Society.
 
The Falls Park Farmer's Market  features fresh flowers, bread, local meats and tender greens for sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  The Farmer's Market is open every Saturday through October.

Enjoy storytime and an animal encounter during the Bookworms Reading Program at the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls.  The program starts  at 1 p.m. in the KELOLAND Education Center.
