Saturday Boredom Busters

Hot Harley Nights at J & L Harley Davidson in Sioux Falls is a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish South Dakota.   Today's activities include a raffle, silent auction, live music and a casino run.  A police-escorted motorcycle parade led by Make-A-Wish kids will leave J & L at 5:30 p.m. and ride through Sioux Falls.

Rebekah's Wish Gift Concert features performances by Christian music artists beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the O'Gorman High School Performing Arts Center.  Tickets are $11.  All proceeds will fund another child's Make-A-Wish dream.

It's Hy-Vee Day at the Great Plains Zoo. Enjoy lunch catered by Hy-Vee, plus stilt walkers, animal encounters and visits from the zoo's mascots from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The cost is a zoo admission, free for zoo members.

While you're at the zoo, bring your kids to the KELOLAND Education Center for the Bookworms Reading Program.  Story-time starts at 1 p.m.

Thousands of people will gather at Pioneer Park in Brookings this weekend for the Brookings Summer Arts Festival.  Today's hours are from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Sunday's hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is available on side streets and public parking lots downtown as well as pay-to-park lots north and northwest of the festival.   Avoid the parking crunch by taking shuttle buses from First Bank & Trust at 6th Street & 22nd Avenue and the South Dakota Agricultural Museum on North Medary and 11th Street.

The Youth Art Show & Sale is free-to-view show featuring works by local artists 17 years and younger.  The art show  will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Downtown Riverfront Amphitheather between 6th & 8th Streets in Sioux Falls.

Get a little dirt underneath your fingernails at Archeology Awareness Days at the Prehistoric Indian Village in Mitchell.  There are lots of hands-on activities for both children and adults.  Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both today and Sunday.  The cost is $6, $5 for seniors, $4 for children and free for kids 5 and under.

Neutrino Day is a free day of scientific fun at the Sanford Underground Lab in Lead, SD.  Neutrino Day goes from 8:30 am to 4:00  p.m. and includes tours,  kids activities plus live chats with scientists.  Public parking is not available at the Sanford Lab, but visitors can catch shuttles at the Visitor Center and the Opera House in Lead.   

Railroad Days at Prairie Village west of Madison, SD includes Doodlebug and train rides, locomotive tours, an old-time fiddlers contest, and reserve your seat aboard the pizza train in the evening.  Admission is $6 for adults, $2 for children, free for kids 5 and under.  Railroad Days run through Sunday.

Tonight's free Moonlight Movie at Fawick Park in downtown Sioux Falls is Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, rated PG.  The movie starts at dusk and refreshments will be sold during the showing.

Enjoy oldies rock & roll with the Happy Day Fun Band during Sounds at the Falls in Falls Park.  The free concert gets underway at 7 p.m. at the Queen Bee Mill.

Learn about Pipestone, Minnesota's paranormal past during Summer Ghost Tours through the downtown area.    The one-and-a-half hour tour starts at 8 p.m. at the Pipestone County Museum.  The cost is $7.

The Sioux Falls Storm takes on the Nebraska Danger in the Indoor Football League Championship game.  Kickoff is at 5:05 p.m. at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center. 

Family Days in Larchwood, IA include a Main Street parade at 10:45 a.m. food booths and kids activities at the city park from noon to 2 p.m. and a Car Show in the city park from 1-3 p.m.

Food for Fosters at Beds by Design on South Louise in Sioux Falls is a fundraiser for PATH, Inc, a non-profit that supports high-needs childen in foster care.  The event includes food trucks and bounce houses from noon to 4 p.m.
