Saturday Boredom Busters

Start your Independence Day celebrating at the Mayor's 4th of July Family Parade & Picnic In Sioux Falls.  The downtown parade begins at 10 a.m. on Phillips Avenue.   Free lunch will be served at Falls Park beginning at 11 a.m.  The Sioux Falls Municipal Band performs at 11:30 a.m.  A short welcoming program that includes the presentation of flags and the National Anthem begins at noon.  Mogen's Heroes performs at 12:30 p.m.   The Bare Bodkins Theatre performs at 1:30 p.m. at the Queen Bee Mill.

The Sioux Falls Jayees' annual free fireworks show is at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds.  The kids area opens at 4 p.m.  Entertainer Phil Baker performs at 7 p.m.  The Sioux Falls Municipal Band plays at 8 p.m.  Ethanol-powered airplanes perform a flyover at 8:50 p.m.  The fireworks display begins at dusk.

An Old-Fashioned 4th of July in Lennox includes a parade at 10:30 a.m., crafts and food vendors at Westerman Park, a Car Show & Shine south of the softball diamonds and a fireworks display at dusk.  

Independence Day Bike Parades will be held at 11 a.m. at Lake Vermillion Recreation Area near Canistota, 2:30 p.m. at Oakwood Lakes State Park near Bruce and at 5 p.m. at Newton Hills State Park near Canton.

Sioux Falls is one of just five cities hosting official premiers for the new movie, Faith of Our Fathers  The red carpet activities begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Cinemark Stadium Century 14 Theater on South Carolyn Avenue.The event also includes a tribute to military veterans.  

Enjoy stock car racing at the Dakota State Fair Speedway in Huron.  The races begin at 7 p.m. The Huron Elks and Sertoma clubs will put on a fireworks display after the race.

Kids can enjoy story-time and an animal encounter at the Bookworms Reading Program at the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls.  The program begins at 1 p.m. in the KELOLAND Education Center. It's free with a zoo admission.

Tonight's free Moonlight Movie at Fawick Park in Sioux Falls is Captain America: Winter Soldier, rated PG-13.  The film begins at dusk.  Refreshments will be sold during the movie.
