This week is National Child Passenger Safety Week.
Various organizations, including Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, helped parents make sure their kids are secure for the ride on Saturday. At the Central Fire Station on Minnesota Avenue, 16 newly certified safety technicians helped parents make sure their car seats are installed properly. The collaborative effort between law enforcement and Sanford Health is critical because the new technicians noticed a lot of issues.
"Over 80 percent of the seats that we see are installed incorrectly. There's a lot that goes into putting the seat in the vehicle, making sure the seat's the right size for the child; that the child's harnessed in the seat correctly," Amy Heisinger with Sanford Health said.
Sioux Falls law enforcement conducts car seat checks every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
