Rock Valley Will Still Host RAGBRAI

Rock Valley, ia

Despite flooding, Rock Valley, IA, will still host the opening of RAGBRAI. The cross-state biking event will start in the northwest community on July 19. And the city will donate proceeds towards a fund for flood victims.

"It’s hard to let go of something that we have worked for months to organize," Mayor Kevin Van Otterloo wrote in a press release. "It’s hard to imagine not having the opportunity to showcase the community that we have seen rally together over the last week."

In a press release, the Rock Valley City Council declared all proceeds from the event will go towards the Rock Valley Flood Relief Fund.

“Our town has seen a lot over the last week, but what we have seen is our town come together and rally in support of each other,” Van Otterloo said.

RAGBRAI — or Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa — is the oldest and largest bike-touring even in the world. Over seven days, riders will travel 418 miles between Rock Valley and Guttenberg. The town was included as the first city for the route back in January.

For those interested in making a donation, make checks payable to Rock Valley Relief Fund. Three banks in Rock Valley are collecting money for the fund:

  • Premier Bank, 1004 21st Ave., 712-476-9100
