Residents Assess Storm Damage

Sioux Falls, SD

An overnight storm hit Sioux Falls uprooting trees and littering the streets with broken tree branches. An Xcel Energy representative says between Sioux Falls and Harrisburg, there were over 5,000 reports of power outages.

Some Sioux Falls residents say there was constant lightening and storm winds that kept them awake in the early hours.

This morning, residents were taking a look at the damage. A tree on 27th Street uprooted and landed on top of a car, breaking the back window. Tialissa Horst was working the overnight shift at a home for people with special needs. She says there's a few things she will remember about the storm.

“My door opening and through the house, that kind of startled me and probably the thunder, it was so constant,” Horst said.

According to its website, the majority of Xcel customers had their power restored by noon.

We will have more on the damage coming up tonight on KELOLAND Weekend News at 10.
