Reason For Eye Clinic Search Not Released

sioux falls, sd

The search of a Sioux Falls eye doctor office is part of an on-going investigation, according to a spokesperson for the South Dakota Attorney General's Office.

Sara Rabern could not reveal the reason behind the search of Advanced Eye Care earlier in the day.

KELOLAND News has contacted The South Dakota Board of Examiners in Optometry.  Dr. Lisa Kollis-Young, President of the Board, said she has received no information about the search.

"We have to remain neutral about these cases, which means we have to remain relatively uninformed about them," Kollis-Young said.  She said if there are any types of charges, the business would be reviewed by the board.

According to the board's website, the business' license has not been taken away.  The website does not list Advanced Eye Care or owner Dr. Jeffrey Browen under the Disciplinary Actions section.

According to Jan Talley, Director of Business Tax for the South Dakota Department of Revenue, the business is in good standing.  She said if Advanced Eye Care was delinquent in paying taxes, the department would have filed a tax lien to get the money.  Nothing has been filed.

KELOLAND News also contacted the Better Business Bureau and a representative said Advanced Eye Care has an A-minus rating, and has not had a complaint filed against it in the last three years.

While police secured the building Thursday morning, authorities could be seen removing paperwork from the office on South Minnesota Avenue.  Some were also seen taking photos of the outside of the building.

Patients who had appointments Thursday morning were asked to leave the office.

We'll have more on the investigation coming up on KELOLAND News at 5.
