Rapid City officials are using a $5,000 grant through the state Health Department to study ways to make city streets safer for pedestrians.
City statistics show that 26 pedestrians were hit by motorists last year - more than twice the rate in the rest of the state.
Long Range Community Planner Sandy Smith says the city will be compiling a list of key areas to study, and will then solicit volunteers to hit the streets. The study will start on May 31 and last for a year.
