Rapid City And USGS Upgrade Rapid Creek Gauge

Rapid City and the U.S. Geological Survey have upgraded the gauge that measures the water flow on Rapid Creek, which flooded in 1972 and killed 238 people.

The new streamgage will also provide visitors with information on that flood and explain how water flow is measured and other issues related to floods, droughts, water supply and recreation.

City and federal political leaders and agency officials will dedicate the new streamgage Wednesday at Founders Park.
