Protesters Prepared To Hold Vigil For Execution

sioux falls, sd

No matter the circumstances, the Death Penalty is a sensitive issue.  While some support it, others are ready to rally against it any chance they get.

A coalition led by South Dakota Peace & Justice Center, Pax Christi, and South Dakotans for Alternatives to the Death Penalty say Eric Robert's crime doesn't warrant the death penalty. The groups say no crime justifies taking another life.

That's why they've planned a vigil Monday on the east side of the South Dakota State Penitentiary near the training facility beginning at 8 p.m. They hope to express their opposition to the death penalty with a non-violent, prayerful vigil around the penitentiary flag pole.

Protest groups can begin gathering around the flagpole Monday at 4 p.m.; supporters will be allowed to gather around the Ronald Johnson Training Center sign at the same time.
