Police confirmed that a teenager killed in a two-vehicle crash along Western Avenue is 15-year-old Kareem Hussein Cisse. This article has been revised to reflect the following correction: A driver involved in the crash was released from the hospital, while a passenger remains hospitalized for his injuries.
According to Lt. Mike Colwill, Cisse was a passenger inside a sedan in the early hours of Wednesday. He and two other minors had arranged to buy a "very small amount of marijuana." When the group stole the drugs from the dealers, investigators say they were chased by a pickup truck driven by 16-year-old Alexander Lingor.
At 4 a.m. Wednesday, officers arrived to what appeared to be a single-vehicle crash near 22nd Street along Western Avenue. But Colwill said that investigators believe that Lingor struck the sedan with his truck, forcing the car to hit a tree. Cisse was pronounced dead Wednesday morning and the two others inside the car were hurt. The driver was treated and released from the hospital and another passenger is still being treated for his injuries.
Lingor was arrested and charged as an adult with second-degree murder, first- and second-degree manslaughter, aggravated assault, and injury hit and run. Colwill also identified a passenger, 26-year-old Anthony Moran, who was charged as being an accessory.
In a letter to parents, Principal Dan Conrad confirmed that Cisse was a Washington High School student. He also wrote that additional counselors will be available for students:
