Sioux Falls Police have named the man who died in a crash involving seven vehicles Thursday afternoon.
Police say 32-year-old Troy Hohn of Sioux Falls was speeding as he drove north on Minnesota Avenue just before noon. He crossed from the center left-turn lane to the far right lane and slammed into the back of a stopped SUV, starting a chain-reaction crash at the stoplight on 41st Street. This pushed the first vehicle waiting at the stop light into the 41st and Minnesota intersection. That car, a 1998 Buick Century, was then hit by two other vehicles that were going through the intersection.
Hohn's SUV ended up veering into Taylor's Pantry gas station on the corner of the intersection. It hit a large sign, an unoccupied minivan and finally came to a stop upside down near some gas pumps. A small fire started in the SUV and had to be put out by a first responder.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
All six people who were hurt were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say the entire investigation of the seven-vehicle crash could take several more days or weeks.
