Sioux Falls, SD
The suspect involved in a weekend crash that sent two people to the hospital has been in trouble with the law before.
Early Sunday morning, police say a repeat drunk driver made a left turn in front of a motorcycle near the intersection of 10th Street and Lowell Avenue, causing a serious crash.
The driver, 56-year-old Cynthia Goeman, is charged with vehicular battery and her sixth DUI. Police say the 23-year-old motorcyclist and his passenger were thrown from the bike. He has life threatening injuries; the 21-year-old female passenger has a fractured skull.
Police say the motorcycle had the right of way but Goeman didn't see it.
"The motorcycle had the yellow flashing light so the traffic on 10th Street had the right of way. She pulled out. She didn't see the motorcycle. She pulled out and the motorcycle struck her," Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said.
The breathalyzer recorded a 0.10 blood alcohol level when Goeman was arrested early Sunday. Authorities say she had just left a bar before pulling out in front of the motorcycle.
Goeman has had six DUIs in the last 25 years. If you look back even further, prosecutors say Goeman has nine lifetime DUIs.
Goeman is being held on a $50,000 cash bond.
