Police Determine Rapid City Robbery Was Falsified

Rapid City, SD

Authorities say a Rapid City robbery at a telecommunications store was fabricated by one of its employees.

Last month, an employee at Verizon Wireless, 36 E. Stumer Road, reported a male suspect entered the business with a gun, demanded money and escaped out the back door. 40-year-old Jason Knox told police he gave the suspect more than $600.

Using security camera footage from a nearby Walmart, Rapid City Police determined that Knox's information was false. Police confirmed, however, that money was missing from the business.

A warrant was issued for Knox for false reporting and second degree petty theft. After the warrant was issued, Knox turned himself in.
