Police Arrest Sex Offender For Failing To Register

The Department of Corrections warned the public when he was released from prison, saying registered sex offender Ed Morris was likely to offend again.  And he is now back behind bars.

Authorities arrested Morris Thursday morning near Whittier Middle School.

When he was released from prison last month, Morris told authorities he would live at the Union Gospel Mission in Sioux Falls.  Police say he left the mission last Friday and failed to register at his new address.

"We knew that he was being released and they had classified him as a high risk to re-offend.  Our detective did a great job of following up on the information he received and we were able to find him quickly after he was out of compliance," Sioux Falls Police Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said.

Morris served 10 years in prison for rape.  He now faces two felony charges, including not registering as a sex offender when he moved.
