Sioux Falls, SD
Though South Dakota may have a small population, big-city crimes like sex trafficking still occur in the state.
This is something Tiospaye is hoping to raise awareness of with the organization's first Poker Run.
The group of motorcycle riders started the event this morning in Sioux Falls at the Roll'n Pin Restaurant, and participants made five stops in nearby rural towns, ending at J and L Harley Davidson. Proceeds from the event go to the organizations My Sister Friend's House, which provides services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
“The educational piece is our biggest goal today. The benefit of the money is great, but our goal is to get education out there for the bikers,” My Sister Friend's House Shelter Coordinator Sarah Johnson said.
Johnson hopes that participants of this event will gain the knowledge and awareness to look for signs of sex trafficking, specifically at the Sturgis Rally.
