With the arrest of a Minnesota State University - Mankato coach accused of having illegal videos on his work phone, we're taking a closer look at the policies for using school-owned technology at South Dakota universities.
The Board of Regents has a policy that covers the use of its equipment and schools can add their own guidelines as well. And that's what Northern State University does.
The IT Department has a procedure to deal with any kind of violation found. The supervisor of the department says the policy is very cut and dry and lays out step by step what workers must do.
She says the department isn't continually monitoring all the use school-owned electronic equipment. But if they're fixing something and come across violations, that's when the procedure comes into play.
The supervisor also says she's confident that the procedure in place is fluid and any violations will be reported up the chain of command to the proper people.
We'll show you how the policies apply to everyone and must be obeyed by everyone tonight on KELOLAND News.
