No Injuries Reported In Smoke-Filled RC Apartment

Rapid City, SD

Smoke in a Rapid City apartment building did not lead crews to fire this morning.

Just after 3 a.m. Monday, Rapid City Fire Department units responded to a possible structure fire at 801 E. Minnesota St. When crews arrived, they found the structure had been partially evacuated. Crews cleared the rest of the occupants and started ventilating the building with fans.

Smoke originated from a bathroom on the second floor of the building. A fire extinguisher had been used to successfully suppress the fire. Responding crews did not need to assist in fire suppression, and the building's sprinkler system had not activated due to insufficient heat from the burning materials.

The building was cleared of smoke and occupants were allowed to return. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
