New License Plate Design Features 'Dignity' Statue

Applications for the license plates will be available at local treasurer's offices and will be mailed to vehicle owners.
Car and motorcycle owners in South Dakota will have a new option for their license plates next month.

The plate's design was created with help from Dale Lamphere, the artist behind the 50-foot "Dignity" statue near Chamberlain. The new landmark was installed in 2016 on the hills along the Missouri River.

Lamphere said "a gift to all the people of South Dakota" and "represents the strength and durability of the native cultures," while cutting the last pieces of the statue.

The new license plate design will be available starting on July 1. Vehicle owners can apply for the speciality plates through their county treasurer's office or online for $10 and a $5 mailing fee.
