Sioux Falls, SD
If you're an avid bicyclist, there will soon be more places to stop and fix your bike in South Dakota.
Most days, you're likely to find Art Holden getting around on two wheels.
"Ride around 5,000 miles a year... seldom drive a car,” Holden said.
His ride around town just got a little easier for him and other bicyclists in the area.
Ride Across South Dakota and other local organizations have announced they're donating nearly $5,000 to build four bike repair stations across the state. Two will go up in Sioux Falls.
"We thought to celebrate bicycling and bicycling tourism, we would do some things for those bicyclists that would make it easier when they come to Sioux Falls," RASDAK President Kasey Abbott said.
One station will be installed near the downtown bus stop. The other will be placed along the bike trail.
If you're riding your bike around town, the station near Sertoma Park is currently the only place where you can repair it. Abbott is happy there will soon be more options.
“You know, we realize that there are a lot of people that do depend on bicycling and they may not have the tools necessary to repair their bikes," Abbott said.
Holden can attest to that.
"Having the bike stations in convenient locations is a real big benefit. I don't have to carry my tools or anything with me either so that's very nice,” Holden said.
The other two bike repair stations will be built West River. One will go up in Rapid City and the other will be installed at Badlands National Park.
