It's best known as Sid's Liquor, but a central Sioux Falls building used to be home to another business.
On Wednesday, a crowd gathered outside to welcome back South Dakota native and media icon Al Neuharth and celebrate history.
Back in 1952, Neuharth and business partner Bill Porter rented space from Sid Epstein where they put together SoDak Sports, a popular statewide weekly sports newspaper. The publication was a hit with readers, but not advertisers. Because of that, in 1954, the paper folded because it couldn't afford to continue.
A plaque outside Sid's Liquor commemorating SoDak Sports was unveiled on Wednesday. Neuharth says he learned a lot from the failure and it helped make him who he is today.
Neuharth will next make his way to Vermillion to present the 2012 Al Neuharth award at a ceremony at USD on Thursday.
