More Than 1,000 Warnings Given During I-90 Patrols

South Dakota Highway Patrol and Minnesota State Patrol made 385 arrests and issued 1,004 warnings during a joint enforcement operation on Interstate 90 last week.

The operation between the two states focused on criminal interdiction, speeding, seatbelt use and DUIs.  The officers made six DUI arrests and 17 drug-related arrests during the June 12 operation. A total of 963 vehicles were stopped.

"Whether you're in South Dakota, or Minnesota, we want safe driving and we want everyone to arrive safely to their destination," Lt. Jeff DeVaney of the South Dakota Highway Patrol said to KELOLAND News last week.

Motor Carrier Services from Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota also focused on trucking safety violations. 59 arrests were made that resulted in several vehicles and drivers being placed out of service.

This was the third year South Dakota and Minnesota have joined together for the enforcement effort.
