More Construction On Minnesota Avenue

Sioux Falls, SD

Minnesota Avenue is more congested as crews continue work on a new construction project just south of I-229. Traffic is reduced down to one lane going both north and south, and peak hour traffic is feeling the strain.

"Yeah, it can be frustrating just if you're in a hurry to get somewhere like work," driver Kelsey Paulsen said.

"You have to take your time and be patient. That's just Sioux Falls," driver Steph Berry said.

Crews will repair a dip in the road by pumping foam underneath the concrete. While it will only take a week to fix the problem, drivers are still not pleased about seeing one more construction site spring up.

"I wish they would've done it sooner because school just started on Monday and now it's just going to be backed up around the lunch time. So, people that go out for lunch will only have 10 minutes or 15 instead of their 40," driver Jason Allington said.

The I-229 intersection is already busy at any point in the day, and now with the construction, drivers are looking for new ways to get home.

"It brings everyone further back because it's usually one lane, and school just started so it gets terrible," Allington said.

"I try to take different routes and I plan accordingly. Take extra time, I guess," Berry said.

It's frustration they know will pass once drivers see the finished project.

"I think they're doing great.  I think the city is trying very hard and I think it's a major project, but I think it's well worth it," Berry said.

While this project will be wrapped up by next week, other projects around the city are still ongoing. If you would like to learn more about where the construction is taking place so you can plan any detours, visit the Sioux Falls Public Works website.
