Members Of Explosives Disposal Group To Meet

Rapid City, SD

A national association that unites people who have served in explosives disposal units will meet in South Dakota in September.

Members of the National Explosive Ordnance Disposal Association will gather in Rapid City starting Sept. 2.

Members of the organization have worked in units that are tasked with disposing of conventional explosive weapons, chemical weapons, biological weapons, pyrotechnics, mines and booby traps, and nuclear weapons and materials.

The association says more than 300 members of the explosive ordnance community have died during missions, in combat and noncombat operations, since the earliest days of bomb disposal in World War II.

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard has declared Sept. 2 to 6 as Explosive Ordnance Disposal Week.
