Think your garden matches up with the masters? Now you can find out. The Minnehaha Master Gardeners will be showing off seven garden sites in the county.
It took Master Gardener Cleone Thompson ten years to get her property the way it looks today and she loved working on it every step of the way.
"Oh I just thoroughly enjoy it. It makes me feel good. I get good exercise. You get so many rewards from the plants," Thompson said.
Thompson's turf is just one of seven master gardens on a tour put on by the Minnehaha Master Gardeners, a non-profit associated with the SDSU Extension service. The group urges anyone with an interest in gardening to come out, see unique setups and ask questions.
"I think we're helping educate the public and that completes one of our goals. We're about education," Thompson said.
And fun of course. Thompson's garden includes a walking path around her property with a view of her horses. At another site, kids can enjoy chickens. The Master Gardeners hope the tour will get more people outside.
"I just hope a lot of people learn to garden because I think we're losing touch sometimes with those things. Those basic things, working in the soil," Thompson said.
The tour takes place, weather-permitting, on July 16 from 4-8 p.m. You can by an arm bracelet with a map at Sioux Falls Lewis Drug stores for $5.
